Journey back to July 11, 1995, when Jewel was interviewed on the NPR radio show, "All Things Considered." It was this particular segment that caught the attention of the producers of "The Wizard Of Oz - In Concert" and was directly responsible for Jewel being cast in the lead role as Dorothy later in the year. Enjoy both parts of this vintage interview from the early days of Jewel's career, shortly after the release of her debut album.

I've recently become an Ambassador for Virgin Unite, the entrepreneurial, non-profit foundation of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group. I'm so excited about this new role-I'll be raising awareness and support for a number of social and environmental issues close to my heart. To find out more about Virgin Unite, go www.virginunite.com Over the last few months, I've been working on a campaign called "The RE*Generation" to raise awareness about the fact that there are more than one million homeless young people in the U.S. It's a joint initiative supported by Virgin Unite, Virgin Mobile USA, and some fantastic non-profit organizations such as StandUp For Kids, YouthNoise, Children's Health Fund and others. Working with The RE*Generation gives me the chance to let people know that so many children are living on the streets right in our own backyard. Many of them have left home because of violence, abuse or neglect. Every day, they face extreme hardships-poverty, social exclusion and often continued abuse. I experienced homelessness first hand as a teenager, so I felt compelled to act. I had the opportunity in June to testify at a Congressional hearing about my own experiences as a homeless teenager. I'm thrilled that Congress has declared November "National Homeless Youth Awareness Month" to call attention to this issue around the country.
